This course begins with plasticity changes with exercise in Parkinson’s disease and related disorders. Recent research relevant to the rehabilitation of persons with PD will be summarized. This course will challenge therapists and trainers to rethink both the assessment of and intervention with persons with Parkinsonism and advocate that therapists deliver care in a primary and secondary prevention model. The program will be and interactive session incorporating factors that influence adherence to exercise, prognosis, interaction of medical/surgical management with exercise, specific training regimes, and advocacy of wellness programming for people with disabilities. Clients will participate in the class.
