This course describes the modes of transmission of HIV, Universal Precautions, and how they are used to prevent HIV transmission. The course explains exposure management for percutaneous exposures, mucous membrane exposures, and intact skin exposures to body fluids believed to contain HIV. A description indicating the use of HIV postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) algorithm to determine the appropriate codes and management is included as well as a list of the HIV postexposure prophylaxis resources and registries.
