This course provides an overview of the important aspects and issues for therapists who must deal with an adult patient who has or is at risk for obtaining a wound or a pressure ulcer (also known as a pressure sore, bed sore, or decubitus ulcer). The healing stages of a wound and factors that interfere with healing are explained. Risk factors for development of infection and pressure ulcers are discussed. The course lists ways in which physical and occupational therapists can prevent pressure ulcers in their high risk patients and treatment modalities commonly used to treat patients with skin wounds and pressure ulcers.
