This Introductory Level course looks at the normal age-related changes that affect sexuality among the elderly, as well as the effects of medication and disease on sexual function. The student will explore the stereotypical age-biased views of sexuality in the elderly and learn to apply the ethical concepts of autonomy and dignity to sexual issues in long-term care settings. The risk of elders contracting AIDS and STDS will also be discussed. This course was authored by Paula Mendenhall, MA.
