Title: Expediting the Process of Diagnosis, Prognosis and Functional Improvement with Neuro Patients.
Does what’s going on in the nervous system really matter to therapy practice? This course is designed to provide clinical relevance to nervous system activity and dysfunction and will provide therapists with a new perspective for improving outcomes in their patients with neurologic deficits. A framework for clinical decision making and therapy intervention based on the clinical relevance of the neuropathology underlying the movement dysfunction will be presented. Participants will learn an evidence based approach to selecting the most appropriate interventions based on functional prognosis and learn when and how to facilitate recovery versus facilitate compensation.

This course will investigate multiple neurological patient populations including Stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, Spinal Cord Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington’s disease and Dementia for the purpose of differential presentation of symptoms and correlation with neurological anatomy and function. A structure will be presented to allow the participant to similarly delineate other neurological entities independently in the future. Additionally, participants will be able to perform a comprehensive neurological examination, correlating findings to symptoms, neuropathology and prognosis as well as skillful documentation. Appropriate facilitation of compensatory neuronal pathways will be explored to maximize plasticity and enhance functional recovery.
