Title: Children's Brains, Neuroplasticity, and Pediatric Intervention: What's the Evidence?
Contemporary theories of neuroplasticity especially as related to motor control, motor learning, and motor development will be presented. Emphasis will be on applying empirical evidence to pediatric evaluation and intervention strategies. Videotapes of treatment sessions will be used to illustrate major points. Controversial issues related to spasticity, handling techniques, and early gait training will be addressed, as well as cognitive and perceptual issues related to praxis.
Principles discussed in the course are applicable to children of all ages as well as adults. Treatment strategies presented are designed for the pediatric populations, infants through adolescents.
This course is designed to present the most recent empirical evidence regarding efficacy of specific interventions.
