Title: Best Practices in Treatment of Patients with Neurologic Disorders.
How does a busy clinician keep up with the evidence? This course will help focus on making evidence based strategies easy to integrate into your adult neuro-rehab practice. Although the most common neurological diagnoses will be highlighted (e.g. stroke, SCI, Parkinsons Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and TBI), less common diagnoses will also be reviewed. Outcome measures that are reliable and valid in persons with neurological diagnoses will be presented and demonstrated. Treatment approaches that improve ambulation and upper extremity functioning such as CIMT and electrical stimulation will be presented. Foundational strategies including strengthening, cardiovascular conditioning and neuroplasticity for persons with neurological diagnoses will be emphasized. Evaluation and treatment of falls for persons with neurological diagnoses will also be presented. The importance of wellness and fitness will be highlighted including effective methods of transferring the client to community programs upon discharge. The role of online resources, systematic reviews and met-analyses will be presented and attendees will be given an updated reference list including websites that are helpful for keeping up with the evidence.
