This course will provide in depth coverage of repair and re¬habilitation following tendon injury in the hand. Anatomy of the flexor and extensor tendons will be reviewed, and types of surgical repairs and their resulting strengths will be described. Understanding traditional approaches to rehabilitation of the tendon and the most current immediate active motion proto¬cols will be included. Various protocols in literature for repairs in Zones I through V will be described. Types of orthoses used for each protocol will be presented and examples of the ortho¬ses will be available for the participant to examine (cameras are allowed if you want to take pictures). Therapeutic management of complications resulting from ten¬don injuries will be discussed, including tendon adhesion, joint stiffness, flexion contracture, and extrinsic tightness.
