This course will assist the therapist in understanding how the loss of sleep interferes with activities of daily living and has adverse effects on the body's ability to recover from illness or injury. The course discusses the importance of sleep, instructs in the stages of sleep, includes specific common sleep disorders, and discusses how lifestyle factors, medical illnesses and medications affect sleep. Included is a section on the therapist's role which specifically addresses therapy assessment, setting goals, and therapy intervention for patients who have been sleep deprived.
