The field of geriatric rehab and geriatric medicine is a fast growing sub-specialty in healthcare. Many fitness trainers are teaching fitness programs to our seniors, but they are not qualified to assess functional limitations and design a program based on those findings. This course reviews the characteristics of aging and discusses the components of an appropriate functional assessment. Explanations include the four pillars of human movement and how they relate to functional activities. How to design a functional exercise program and progress the patient through manipulation of the different variables, including all the planes of the trunk, is emphasized with clear illustrations.
