This course is the second of three modules concerning practice of occupational therapy in mental health. The text for the second module is Chapters 34-44 of the textbook Occupational Therapy in Mental Health: A Vision for Participation by Brown and Stoffel, copyright 2011 by F. A. Davis. (Note: Each of the 3 modules may be taken separately, and may stand alone.) This second module addresses the occupational therapist’s role in various mental health practice settings. OT assessment and intervention are discussed in the mental health settings of: early intervention for infants and toddlers, consumer-operated self-help services, after-school programs, forensic settings, state hospitals, psychosocial clubhouses, community based case management, hospital-based mental health care, the workplace, homeless and women’s shelters, and wraparound services for children and families. The roles and opportunities for occupational therapy practice, evidence based updates, the treatment teams, as well as funding sources for each of these mental health settings are discussed. This module is an excellent tool for any occupational therapist who may be searching for varied experience and job opportunities in the mental health setting.
