This course discusses the difference between osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, the suggested etiologies and risk factors relating to osteoarthritis of the hip, the signs and symptoms of OA of the hip, and the pathology of OA of the hip. The course identifies the management goals for the patient with osteoarthritis of the hip, diagnostic evaluation, and describes the therapeutic roles of the physical therapist and the occupational therapist in the management of a patient with osteoarthritis. Treatment modalities and considerations relating to surgery for hip OA are also discussed.
