See all courses from Therapy Network Seminars

Instructor's Name: Charles Thigpen, PT, PhD, ATC

This two-day course will provide the clinician with evidence based examination and intervention strategies to rehabilitate the shoulder girdle following injury. This will be accomplished through a combination of lecture and laboratory sessions aimed at highlighting important concepts in anatomy and biomechanics of pertinent cervical, thoracic, and shoulder girdle structures. Identification of confounding cervico-thoracic impairments that influence shoulder function as well as critical factors related to shoulder pathophysiology including injury repair and healing time which support evidence based framework for shoulder rehabilitation. The process of examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis for disorders of the shoulder will be discussed in detail. An eclectic mix of manual therapy techniques including soft tissue and joint mobilization as well as PNF techniques will be use to maximize the effectiveness of therapeutic exercise interventions. Techniques will be demonstrated and practiced to address shoulder disorders such as shoulder impingement syndrome, non-operative management of rotator cuff repairs, shoulder instability, adhesive capsulitis, thoracic outlet syndrome, as well as post-operative approaches to instability, rotator cuff repair, total and reverse total shoulder replacement.
