Instructor's Name: Michelle Lange, OTR, ABDA, ATP/SMS

Electronic Aids to Daily Living (EADL) provide alternative control of devices allowing for the patients increased interaction with his or her environment. The basic EADL is controlled by switch and operates simple battery operated electrical devices allowing the patient to address communication needs and self-care tasks, as well as improve functional independence.

Basic EADL devices can be utilized in the development of cognitive skills, provide independent play, promote socialization, and increase participation in the clinical plan to address more specific disease processes. Additionally the basic EADL should be considered a fundamental step in preparing patients for future, more sophisticated assistive technology use.
