Techniques will be demonstrated and practiced to address shoulder disorders such as shoulder impingement syndrome, non-operative management of rotator cuff repairs, shoulder instability, adhesive capsulitis, thoracic outlet syndrome, as well as post-operative approaches to instability, rotator cuff repair, total and reverse total shoulder replacement.

THE HAND, WRIST, AND ELBOW COMPLEX

This two-day seminar will present a comprehensive overview of the structural and biomechanical basis of hand, wrist & elbow function and their relationship to the entire upper extremity. This unique approach thoroughly examines the relationship of these structures to human performance and suggest strategies for functional improvement. Common pathologies, mechanisms of injury, and progressive pre and post-operative treatment involving fractures, RSI/CTDs, tendon/nerve lacerations, arthritis, sprains/strains and dislocations will be covered with strong reference to their impact on function. Course content includes medical screening, differential diagnosis, imaging, functional progression of treatment, splinting/casting, PAMs, pain management and the non-compliant patient. This seminar will NOT present a “protocol driven approach” to rehabilitation. Rather, the participant will learn a “framework” for physical examination that will permit rapid synthesis of findings into a “dynamic treatment plan” designed to increase patient satisfaction and outcomes.

THE HIP AND KNEE COMPLEX

Successful examination and development of tx interventions of the hip and knee requires the clinician to have a comprehensive understanding of the anatomy and biomechanics of the respected regions. With this understanding and a problem-solving approach, the clinician will be able to accurately determine the source(s) of the patient’s symptoms and formulate an effective tx scheme that focuses on correction of the underlying problems vs symptom relief. This workshop is designed for rehabilitation specialists of all skill levels who have exposure to this orthopedic population. The first portion of the course focuses on a comprehensive overview of the anatomy and biomechanics of the hip and knee followed by examination considerations and treatment intervention strategies for nonoperative and postoperative management of commonly seen orthopedic conditions.

MANUAL THERAPY OF THE UPPER EXTREMITY

Injuries to the upper extremity cause impairments that often contribute to significant disabilities and functional limitations. Rehabilitation professionals who properly apply manual therapy techniques and neuromuscular facilitation exercises are giving their patients the best opportunity to rehabilitate their injuries. This two day course will enable the participant to understand the role of manual therapy in rehabilitation of the upper extremity and apply manual and exercise techniques appropriately. The interaction between the instructor and participant is the foundation for an active learning environment. The course will provide the optimal continuing education experience equipping the participant to apply these techniques immediately when they return to the clinic. Additionally, they will be able to use the anatomical, biomechanical, and neuromuscular basis to further develop their manual therapy skills.

MUSCLE ENERGY & SOFT TISSUE TECHS FOR THE UPPER EXTREMITY

This lab intensive course presents both Soft Tissue Mobilization (STM) and Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) for the cervical and upper thoracic spines, upper ribs and shoulder regions. The participants will be instructed in the science and principles of these techniques along with an overview of the anatomy and biomechanics of the regions. The laboratory sessions will include demonstration followed by opportunity to practice these hands-on evaluation and treatment techniques under the supervision of your instructor. This course will provide the participant with the understanding and necessary skills to apply these techniques in the clinic environment.
