Online Practice Test for the OTR Exam

NBCOT offers an OTR online multiple-choice practice test, consisting of 100 items reflecting current certification examination content. This test is available for candidates to take 24 hours a day from anywhere a candidate has Internet access.

The OTR practice test is offered in either a 2-hour version, simulating certification test timed conditions, or a double-time 4-hour version. (The exam clock does provide compensation for slow modems or busy Web periods.) At the end of the test, candidates will receive a screen report instantly displaying their overall test score and scaled score across the major areas of the examination. NBCOT does not provide item-level feedback or answers to the individual questions contained in these practice tests.

OTR Clinical Simulation Tutorial & Practice Test

A section of clinical simulation problems are included in the OTR examinations. NBCOT offers a 45-minute practice test consisting of three clinical simulation problems. Candidates taking the simulation practice test work through a simulation problem from opening scene all the way through the accompanying sections of the problem. Candidates see how a clinical outcome is provided for each response selected. The outcome box contains pertinent information for proceeding through each section of the simulation problem. At the end of the simulation practice test, candidates receive a score report providing an overall scaled score.

OTR candidates who will be taking the OTR certification examination from January 2009 can click here to view the tutorial for the new clinical simulation section of the OTR examination. By reviewing this tutorial before taking the actual examination, candidates can familiarize themselves with the overview of the format and flow of a clinical simulation problem and the procedures for selecting the responses to clinical simulation items.

Online Content Tests

Online Content tests are available in the areas of:

  • Physical Disabilities
  • Mental Health
  • Pediatrics
  • Administration

These tests are a dynamic learning tool providing rationales at the item-level for each response option. The content tests enable candidates to gain an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses related to a particular practice area. These tests are invaluable for directing a plan of study for the certification examination. Please note, as item-level rationales are provided as a candidate progresses through the test, there is no end of test score report for the content tests.
