SUBMITTING THE APPLICATION

There are two ways to apply for the certification examination - online or by mail using a paper application.

Important Note: Completion of the NBCOT Certification Examination Application is not the same as applying for state licensure.  Sending a score report to a state regulatory board does not automatically initiate the process to obtain a license or permit to work in that state.  Certification by NBCOT is independent, different, and separate from any state or jurisdiction's law/licensure. Almost all jurisdicitions - including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico - have some form of regulation of occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants.  Before an applicant begins working in any state or comparable jurisdiction, it is essential that all requirements of that jurisdiction are met. To work without a license or permit is against the law.
