Repeat Candidates

Candidates may retake the certification exam after a failing grade by logging into their existing exam application and selecting the Reapply button.  A new account should not be created.  A fee will be assessed for duplicate accounts.

Important Notes:

  • There is a 30-day waiting period after the last examination date before the candidate may test again.
  • A new application fee will be assessed.  New fees will also be assessed for score reporting, confirmation notices, or any other services.
  • If the candidate has had a name change since the last exam administration, he/she MUST complete a Name Change Request on the Profile page of the MyNBCOT portal. The candidate should do this prior to reapplying for the exam. To ensure that you have acceptable forms of ID to be admitted to the test center, refer to the section of the Certification Exam Handbook (PDF) titled "Exam Day: Questions & Answers."
  • Any candidate who previously provided an official final transcript to NBCOT does not need to submit another transcript, unless requested by NBCOT to do so. After eligibility has been approved, the candidate will receive a new ATT letter, with a new 90-day testing eligibility period.
  • Candidates who previously tested with Testing Accommodations should refer to the Testing Accommodations Handbook (PDF) for details on how to reapply with accommodations.
  • Candidates who previously answered “Yes” to a character question should refer to the section of the Certification Exam Handbook (PDF) titled "Retaking the Exam" for details on reapplying.
