NBCOT Clinical Simulation Information

From January 2009, the OTR examination will consist of two sections – section 1 contains 3 clinical simulation problems and section 2 contains 170 multiple-choice test items.

There is a tutorial before EACH section of the examination explaining the process of selecting responses to the exam items.

Time spent on the tutorials does NOT count against the time allocated for the examination. Candidates are strongly encouraged to take the tutorial prior to starting each section of the examination.

The following screens show static screenshots of the actual tutorial appearing before the simulation section on the certification examination. By viewing this tutorial before taking the examination, candidates can familiarize themselves with the overview of the format and flow of a clinical simulation problem and the procedures for selecting the responses to clinical simulation items. Note that the screenshots presented here are for illustration purposes only.  When taking the actual examination tutorial, candidates will be able to use the scroll bar as needed to view all of the information presented on a tutorial screen.  Additionally, on the actual exam tutorial, candidates will be able to select response boxes to view the operation of the feedback component of the simulation item.
