| Professional Development Audit |

| NBCOT®'s Certification Renewal Audit Any OTR® or COTA® renewing certification with NBCOT® will be subject to a random audit for compliance with the Professional Development Requirements for Certification Renewal. Any certificant may challenge the audit if he/she is not in agreement with the audit results.
When will the Audit Occur?
- Audits will occur triennially, beginning April, July, and November
- Three percent (3%) random selection March
- First 1% notified April
- Certificants should maintain documentation for one (1) year following the completion of renewal cycle
What areas will be addressed?
- Quantitative review of number of Professional Development Units (PDUs)
- Minimum 50% or 18 PDUs related to the Delivery of OT Services
- Remainder of PDUs related to Professional Role
- Maximum PDUs per activity
- Approved versus other providers
Who will review my compliance?
- Occupational therapists, NBCOT® staff driven activity
- Process will remain confidential
- Burden of proof on the certificant
- Incomplete responses or insufficient numbers of PDUs (will require supporting documentation)
Audit and Documentation Requirments
- Maintain the original documentation of professional development activities
- Copies of official documentation will be accepted
- Professional development activity summary table to document your activities
- You may submit your state regulatory board’s education card
Audit and Documentation Requirments
- If you did not satisfy the professional development requirements (thirty-six 36 Professional Development Units), you will have up to six (6) months to complete the requirement.
