Maintain Your National Board Certification

Your Certification

Certification renewal recognizes that you, the OTR® or COTA®, have met a national standard for professionalism and promotes continued professional development. We believe that continually supporting your practice has long-term benefits for all stakeholders.

By completing all certification renewal requirements by your scheduled renewal date, you will be granted Active in Good Standing certification status for another three years. The certification renewal season occurs between January and March annually.

After You Renew

You will receive an email with information about how to access and download your digital certificate, wallet card, and badge after your application is processed. If you do not receive an email, you should contact NBCOT at recert@nbcot.org.

Your renewal year has passed. What next?

If you did not renew your certification within your renewal year, you must apply for reinstatement and be approved before using your OTR or COTA credential.
