The Navigator launched in 2016 and has quickly become a go-to source for OTR and COTA certificants to assess their competency across various areas of occupational therapy. Here, we provide answers to the most common questions we receive about this platform.

The NBCOT Navigator is available to all active OTRs and COTAs at no additional cost.

Yes, you earn units through Navigator for your future certification and licensure renewals. Make sure your state accepts Navigator for licensure renewal.
NBCOT does not monitor your Navigator progress. Your Navigator results are confidential. It is entirely at your discretion if you choose to share your results from the Navigator tools with your employer or any other third party.
You can earn up to 14 competency assessment units (CAUs) toward your certification renewal through the Navigator. A total of 36 units is required to renew.
UPDATE: As of 2022, you can now earn up to 36 CAUs toward certification renewal through Navigator.
You can find a map of the states that currently accept Navigator on the Navigator web page under the section "States Accept the Navigator for Licensure Renewal." If your state is not listed, we encourage you to contact them to consider accepting the Navigator.
Yes. Please review your state’s policies to ensure you complete all necessary licensure renewal requirements.
