Reinstatement Changes Coming in 2021
The reinstatement process is changing starting in 2021.
The NBCOT Board of Directors voted to amend the current policy on reinstating an expired certification. The updated reinstatement policy will become effective January 1, 2021, for all certificants who do not renew their OTR or COTA certification.
Beginning January 2027, any individual who has allowed their certification to lapse for three or more cycles must apply for and retake the entry-level OTR/COTA certification exam and complete a background check.
